The ZAZ 968M "Saporoshez" is a small car of the Soviet, now Ukrainian manufacturer Saporisky Awtomobilebudiwny Sawod (short SAS or ZAZ), which was built from 1979 to 1994.
History
The model was intended primarily for the internal market (Ukrainian ЗАЗ-968М "Запорожець”, Russian ЗАЗ-968М "Запорожец”) .
The main differences to the predecessor, the SAS-968A were the smooth body without large side air intakes, rectangular taillights, new bumpers, fewer chrome parts, a new dashboard and a larger trunk with carrying capacity of 706 1, 320 kg the saloon/sedan having 2 doors and 4 seats, with separate front seats, and front and rear reclining backrests along with independent heating safety features such as antitheft and hazard lights. By using plastic parts, the vehicle weight could be reduced by 40 kg.

Fitted with a rear 73 cu in, 1,197 cc 4 stroke; 4 cylinders, Vee-slanted engine with cast iron block light alloy head. The gearbox mechanical
fully synchronized 4 speeds.

In 1981, 149,000 small cars were produced. Production of the SAS-968M was discontinued in May 1994. In 1987, the successor who was ZAZ Tarai 1102, a hatchback with front-wheel drive and water-cooled front engine presented.
