History
At first although the bonnet and the entire front of the vehicle looked similar to the Citroën Traction Avant , the Type 23 had a conventional rear-wheel drive. The vehicle was used by almost all armies, especially French, British and Polish, during wartime. the model changed over the years with changes to body.
The production lasted for a very long time, from 1935 to 1969. From the beginning of the Second World War to the German invasion of France, more than 12,000 of the vehicles were delivered in less than ten months. There were two different body styles, since the U23 1953/54 was completely redesigned. Successor of the Citroën type 23 was the Citroën Belphégor . Overall, the car was sold 121,902 times.
The gasoline engine is a widespread Citroën development and has a displacement of 1911 cc . It was used in many vehicles, from Traction Avant to H and DS .
The diesel engine is either from Perkins or Indénoor and has a displacement of 3,150 cubic centimeters. The payload is, depending on the model, 1,500 to 2,500 kg .
