The Dodge Daytona was a sports coupe with a hatchback and front-wheel drive that was made by the American automaker Dodge from 1984 to 1993.

The Dodge Daytona was built on the Chrysler K-Cars' abbreviated basis ( Dodge Aries or Plymouth Reliant ). This was a sister model of the Chrysler laser and was part of the G24 development project. While the Daytona was phased out of the programme in 1986, it was nevertheless produced until 1993. There was no matching Plymouth model.

History

The Daytona debuted in 1984 in three versions: base, turbo, and turbo Z. The base model had a 100 horsepower 2.2 litre four-cylinder engine, while the turbo models had a 144 horsepower turbocharged version of the same engine. Two-tone paint, front and rear spoilers, sill aprons, and unique trim strips were all standard on the Turbo Z. The Electronic Voice Alert (EVA), which provided instrument cluster alerts, was among the orderable items. All Daytonas received a three-piece back spoiler in 1985, the turbo engine had bigger tyres, and the turbo engine had 148 horsepower. 1986 was the year of the turbocharger (the Turbo Z remained in the program). The base model with the new 2.5-liter four-cylinder (101 horsepower) was available for a premium. A sports suspension created by Carroll Shelby may be specified for the Turbo Z.

In 1987 , the Daytona received a first facelift, which included folding headlightsand a revised rear. The model program was now divided into basic model (with the 2.5-liter or the turbo engine), Daytona Pacifica (only with turbo engine) and Daytona Shelby Z (with a new, 177-hp version of the turbomachine, sports suspension and Getrag - five-speed gearbox).From 1989 on all Daytonas disc brakes were also standard on the rear axle. The Daytona Pacifica was replaced by the Daytona ES Turbo (with 152 hp 2.5-liter turbo), the Shelby Z was now called only Shelby.

Dodge Daytona

From 1990 , there was the Daytona as a base model and as an extra charge with the also coming from Mitsubishi three-liter V6 engine. With the revised high-performance turbocharged engine of the Daytona Shelby, the turbo lag was lower thanks to variable loader blades, and the vehicle was also available with electronic chassis control for a surcharge. All Daytona received steering wheel and dashboard from the Chrysler LeBaron .In the 1991 model year , the Daytona changed the chassis and steering benefits. The Daytona Shelby was renamed Daytona IROC and received a 154 hp 2.5 l turbo engine, which was tuned for more torque at low speeds.

In 1992 , the Daytona received another facelift with exposed headlamps and modified sill aprons. In addition, the Daytona IROC R / T supplemented the program with a 227 hp turbo engine; the normal IROC received the V6 as standard.

In the last year of the Daytona, 1993 , the 2.5-liter turbo engine with 152 hp was no longer available. The production ended in March 1993.

Dodge made of the Daytona in all versions a total of 385,000 built.
