The Chevrolet Confederate BA Series was a middle-range car that was manufactured by Chevrolet in 1932 as the only model and successor to the Independence AE series. The 1930-33 Chevys carried a different series name for each year of production : as Universal, Independence, Confederate, then Eagle (for deluxe) and Mercury (as standard). This practice was ended by 1934.
The vehicle was introduced in December 1931 and was available with fourteen different bodies - eleven two-door and three four-door. The cars had the top-controlled six-cylinder in-line engines (OHV) of the predecessor. The machine with 3179 cc, however, displacement developed a power of 60 hp (44 kW) at 3000 rpm, The engine power was transmitted via a single-disc dry clutch and a manual, first fully synchronized three-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. All four wheels had mechanical drum brakes and were serially designed as wire spoke wheels. Also new were the longer bonnet and the four chrome-plated ventilation flaps on each side.
The selling prices were lowered again slightly with Standard or the “Deluxe" Chevrolet produced 52,446 of this body style in both Standard and Deluxe versions. In Standard form it sold for $615 and weighed 2,800 lbs. The Deluxe style weighed more at 2,850 lbs. and sold for $630. After 12 months and only 306,716 copies ran out of Confederate. Successors were the larger Master Eagle Series CA and - half a year later - the standard Mercury Series CC.
