The Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was one of the US carmaker Cadillac four-door hardtop - Limousine the top price category, which was produced from 1957 to 1,960 in three versions.
Series 1 (1957 and 1958)
The first Eldorado Brougham drew on several design studies, including the Cadillac La Espada, Cadillac Park Avenue and the Eldorado Brougham Town Car, which anticipated the Brougham's body style.
In January 1957 Cadillac presented the top model of the brand and the group the Eldorado Brougham. Priced at $ 13,074, the price was $ 10,000 less than the cost of manufacturing to make the vehicle affordable for the buyer.
Compared to the regular Cadillac limousines of the model year 1957, the Eldorado Brougham was characterized by its completely redesigned roof made of polished stainless steel, the rear hinged rear doors (in German so-called suicide doors) and other tail fins; The fins of the Eldorado Brougham usually anticipated the designs of the next year's regular Cadillac models. Furthermore, the equipment was more extensive, because countless electric motors made both the entry and exit, the opening of the trunk and the hood, as well as the seat adjustment as pleasant as possible. For the passenger was a perfume vaporizer and a small handkerchief dispenser in the glove compartment. For the interior there were 125 different colour combinations to offer the buyers an individual design of his Brougham.
Technically, the Eldorado Brougham differed primarily by a modified, shorter by 89 mm frame and the standard air suspension, which was very vulnerable. It often happened that the air suspension failed and you had to bring his Brougham in the workshop. Due to the high susceptibility of the suspension Cadillac built a new steel suspension for free. For the drive provided in the first year in the other Cadillac models built for extra charge six-Liter V8 with two quadruple carburettors’ and 325 SAE gross horsepower.
For the model year 1958 there were some minor changes to the technique. In the engine compartment was now a version of the six-Liter with three carburettors’ and 345 SAE gross horsepower.
Series 2: 1959
The models 1959 (introduced in March 1959) and 1960 rested on the regular Cadillac frame (wheelbase 330 cm) and were made for cost reasons, but also to provide additional exclusivity, at Pininfarina in Turin. Pininfarina was also responsible for the body design. Stylistically, it resembled the regular Cadillacs, aside from the shape of the roof and tail fins. In detail, however, she anticipated design features of the regular model year 1960. Used, as in the parallel produced Eldorado Biarritz and Seville, a variant of the new 6.4-liter V8, which brought it with three double carburettors to 345 SAE gross horsepower.
Series 3: 1960
The 1960 model made the basic design changes of the regular Cadillac models, but received a strongly accented trim edge in the lower rear fender, which was seen again in 1961 on all Cadillac models. With the end of the model year 1960, the Eldorado Brougham was removed from the program. A total of 904 copies were created.
