LDV Limited was a British manufacturer of Commercial vehicles that were built from 1993 to 2009.
History
In 1987 Freight Rover was merged with DAF to Leyland DAF. In 1993, Leyland DAF became insolvent. An investor group took over Leyland DAF and founded the LDV Limited as Leyland Trucks and Vans. They produced a large range of panel vans, pickups and minibuses, all available with different specifications to suit the customer. the van models included the Convoy built from 1993-2006 the Pilot from 1993-2006 the Cub 1996-2001 and the Maxus built from 2004 to end of production in 2008.
The Russian vehicle manufacturer GAZ participated in LDV in 2006 and later took over the majority of LDV. Due to the worldwide recession, the sales of LDV collapsed in 2008 and the Russian parent company GAZ did not want to provide any further funds. As a result, production was stopped at the Birmingham factory in December 2008. The end of April 2009 was the end of the company.
The British government once again tried to save the company by providing guarantees of £ 5m. But the only interested party, the Malaysian West Star Corporation, could not finance the acquisition.
In 2009, PricewaterhouseCoopers sold its assets to the Chinese Eco Concept Investment Company. This was from SAIC has been tasked with this. SAIC has been producing the SAIC Maxus since 2011, a model based on the latest LDV product Maxus. In 2008, LDV produced 9308 Maxus that were sold off by 2010. With the bankruptcy over 900 employees at LDV lost their jobs.
