SP Highwayman history

 

SP Cars was a British car brand in Sussex built from 1972 to 1974 they built roadster sports cars as the SP Highwayman.

History

Derek Skilton at Hooe, Battle in Sussex. Built the SP Highwayman this had the appearance of a sports roadster .

The SP Highwayman was based on the mechanics of the Rover P6 and for the prototype in 1972, a 2.0 later in-line engine with overhead camshaft and 2.0 l displacement was used, which made 109.5 bhp (80.5 kW) at 5500 rpm.

The production version presented in the same year with De Dion rear suspension. S.P. non-independent front suspension. Aluminium bodywork on zinc-coated steel space frame and chassis. Body styling and extras made to individual requirements. The Rover V8 engine with 3.5-liter displacement, which delivered 144 bhp (106 kW) at 5000 rpm was used.

By 1974 ended production.
