In 1957, the Super Chief replaced the deluxe model Chieftain 870 of the previous year, while the standard model Chieftain 860 was still sold as Chieftain. There was a 2-door hardtop coupe, 4-door limousines in standard and hardtop version and a 5-door station wagon.

In addition to the more luxurious features, the Super Chief had more powerful engines. The 5,686 cc V8 made 238-274 bhp (175-201 kW) and was thus each 18 bhp stronger than the Chieftain.

1957-Pontiac-Super-Chief-Catalina-Coupe

In 1958, the Super Chief was based on the long wheelbase of the Star Chief and was only available as a coupe and sedan. Like his sister models, he had twin headlamps, panoramic rear windows, and wider side panels in the tail fins area. The 263 to 274 bhp (178-201 kW) carrying 6,063 cc -V8 came from the Chieftain.

This year, there were 27,130 Super Chief. In the fall of 1958, the model was replaced by the Star Chief of the model year 1959.
