The Nissan Navara (or Nissan Frontier) is a pickup, which is produced since 1986 by the Japanese car maker Nissan, now in the fourth version. The two models come from the former car brand Datsun, where they bore the name Datsun Pickup.

The next generation Nissan Navara was presented in March 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show. It resembles the Nissan Pathfinder to the A-pillar and represents its pickup version. Therefore, the two vehicles share a technical base and use different components together. Like the Pathfinder, the Navara has a ladder frame chassis, independent front suspension with triangular wishbones and a rear rigid axle with leaf springs. When driving the rear axle is driven, the four-wheel drive can be switched on in the ratio of 50:50 percent. This generation is called Extra Cabin (King Cab) or as a double cab.

The engine is a 2.5-liter common-rail diesel engine with variable turbine geometry available. The engine provides 128 kW (174 hp) with a torque of 403 Nm. The larger motor has been revised in the meantime and then made 126 kW (171 hp). In non-European markets, there is also a 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with 198 kW (269 hp)

Towards the end of 2007, the Navara received a facelift. For the exterior, there are now two new exterior paintwork and redesigned alloy wheels. The side indicators were moved from the fenders in the exterior mirrors. Inside, new materials and fabrics are used. As a new extra, there is a Bluetooth hands-free kit for all versions.

In addition to the three equipment versions XE (base), SE (comfort) and LE (luxury) was launched in December 2007 by Navara a special model called White Elements. This includes carving skis, black 17-inch alloy wheels with winter tires, a ski carrier system and a storage box for the loading area. Inside there are heated, black leather seats and for an additional charge the executive package with DVD navigation system, MP3-CD radio and voice recognition. 2008, Platinum was added as a further trim level for the double cabin models. This includes in addition to the LE- Features include heated and electrically adjustable leather seats, a Bose sound system, a DVD navigation system with rear view camera, a glass sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels and various decorative elements in Gun Metal Gray.

Nissan-Navara Technical details and specifications

In March 2010 was at the Geneva Motor Show another facelift model of the Navara presented. This is characterized by a new grille, other headlights and a less edgy front bumper. Inside, new surfaces are used and the arrangement of the controls in the centre console has been revised. New in the offer are a special touchscreen navigation system, xenon headlights and a reversing camera. The 2.5-liter diesel engine has been modified and now provides 140 kW (190 hp), has a torque of 450 Nm and consumes an average of 8.4 Liters of diesel per 100 kilometres, less than the previous model. Also on offer is a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with an output of 170 kW (231 hp) and 550 Nm of torque, which complies with the Euro 5 emission standard and has a towing capacity of 3.0 tonnes.

The vehicles for the continental European market were manufactured in Spain. In contrast, production in the Brazilian São José dos Pinchai’s continues to run for the South American market.

Security

In 2008, the Nissan Navara achieved one of a maximum of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. However, this was to him has been withdrawn because of existing for the driver risks to the neck lethal to hurt.  Nissan then improved the airbag control and launched a recall campaign, in which all vehicles already delivered received a software update.  During another crash test by Euro NCAP, the modified Navara stars three out of five reached.
