The JK was first introduced in 2006 at the North American International Auto Show by Chrysler President Tom LaSorda, who was spectacularly driving a JK through a pane of glass.

On April 21, 2007 began the sale of the new Jeep Wrangler 2007 JK. It is offered in two model variants - as a two-door and new as four-door with the name suffix Unlimited. The basic platform of its predecessor TJ has been replaced by an improved JK platform and now offers improved roadholding on asphalt. This Wrangler is significantly longer and wider than its predecessors.

Versions

  • Variant with short wheelbase and two doors as Sport, Sahara and Rubicon
  • Variant with long wheelbase with four doors as Sport, Sahara and Rubicon

A six-speed manual transmission is standard for the 2.8-liter turbo diesel variants. (Five-speed automatic for the four-door variants Sahara and Rubicon). For the 3.8 -Liter V6 petrol engine was a four-speed automatic transmission available, which was replaced in 2012 by the 5G TRONIC transmission from Mercedes-Benz. The equipment series Rubicon is for the harder offroad Use provided. With reinforced axles and a better terrain reduction he should be up to any task. Furthermore, the Rubicon electrically operated locks in the front and rear axles. These are also to be operated from the cockpit. New to all equipment lines are ESP and a rollover protection.

In Egypt, the current generation of the Arab American Vehicles is also adapted to the local market. There is a choice of the model offered as Jeep J8 as a two- and four-seater each in a short or long wheelbase. As motorization come four-cylinder diesel engines of the type VM 2.8L of VM Motori (Italy) used. With a displacement of 2,777 cc, it achieves a power of 118 kW. As a Jeep TJL-J8, the model is also available as a hardtop version with removable roof.

10th Anniversary Edition

As of August 2013, the Wrangler Rubicon was offered as the "10th Anniversary Edition". The special edition was to have a two-door and in the long version of "Wrangler". The engine is powered by the 209 kW V6 petrol engine and the 4-cylinder diesel engine with 147 kW.

Wrangler JK Unlimited

The Wrangler Unlimited is the first four-door Wrangler. According to the marketing department of the manufacturer, despite its grown by 523 mm in length and a wheelbase of 2945 mm, the two-door in terms of off-road capability in no way inferior. The slope angles are identical, but the ramp angle is lower (20.8 ° instead of 25.1 °) due to the longer wheelbase.

The engines of the JK Unlimited are identical to those of the two-door variants, the tank capacity has been increased. Likewise, the maximum trailer load in the four-door model, at least in higher trim levels, increased.
