History

It was developed as Isuzu's first self-developed passenger car before the expiration of the partnership with Isuzu Hillman Minx, which was domestically produced through a technical partnership with the Roots Group in the UK.In addition to the original type based on the Hillman Minx Isuzu developed as the first own model, the mid-size sedan Bellel which was introduced in 1961. The original model, a four-door sedan with two-liter gasoline engine in standard and deluxe version, joined a 1.5-liter variant with Nippon Kikaki downdraft twin barrel carburettors.styled by Carrozzeria Pininfarina in the 1950s the tail lamps were triangular, which was extremely unique

A version with two-liter diesel engine and also Bellel estate version.  The diesel engine a first for a Japanese passenger car made the Bellel popular for commercial applications, also with diesel engine, added fitted with Drum brakes all around. The design goal was to "take advantage of Hillman's strengths and add a unique design", and it was an absolute requirement to make it a six-seater, which would be advantageous for sales to the taxi industry produced through a technical partnership with the Roots Group in the UK .

However, due to the diversion of a diesel engine for trucks , the intensity of the engine's vibration and noise was at a level that could not be ignored as a passenger car, and it was notorious for the taxi drivers because of the vibration and noise.
