The company was founded in 1902 as the German automotive industry Friedrich Hering OHG. Before that, the company already existed from 1888 as a supplier for bicycle and auto parts as well as axles and chassis frames. For Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. were ball bearing axles manufactured and Michelin steel disc wheels with removable hard rubber rim that were still built-in large numbers in the new plant. In 1904, the entrepreneur Carl Richard, who had a factory in Ronneburg, became a new shareholder; the company was now called "German automotive industry Hering and Richard".Models were produced under the brand names Rex and Rex-Simplex,
The company by 1902 moved into the car and commercial vehicle industry, because there a particularly modern solidly built light truck under the name "Rex-Simplex" was made of the modifications were also built as a rugged car using engines from De Dion-Bouton and also Fafnir with 12 and
16 hp two-cylinder and 24 hp four cylinder engines . The light commercial vehicle was one of the best-known trucks until the First World War.
By 1905 a new Rex Simplex car 12/15 hp two-cylinder de Dion Bouton that was driven with chain drive. The strongest truck model had a 24/28
PS four-cylinder de Dion Bouton engine.
In 1913, the wheel department of Hering was spun off, which was very successful until the Second World War. During the First World War, the regular roster was made by about 600 employees. After the war, the three-tonne was further developed; the rebuilt Rex simplex has been exported all over the world. Nevertheless, Hering and Richard did not manage to raise the necessary capital to survive on their own: in 1922 the factory was taken over by the elite engine works in Brand-Erbisdorf. The bodywork Ronneburg was spun off. Thus, the names German automobile industry Hering and Richard and the brand name Rex-Simplex ended.
