The Fiat 2300 appeared as a nearly identical successor to the Fiat 2100 In the autumn of 1961 .

History

The Fiat 2300 was available as the four-door notchback and five-door station wagon (Familiare) and the top model in the model range above the Fiat 1800 .

The Fiat 2300 had a straight-six gasoline engine with 2279 cc capacity with quadruple bearing crankshaft and hanging valves. This made a maximum of 77 kW (105 hp) at 5300 / min and powered by a hydraulically operated single-disc dry clutch , a synchronized four-speed gearbox with steering gear and a split propeller shaft to the rear wheels.

Optionally, an overdrive or a three-stage automatic transmission were available. The rear axle now hung on semi-elliptic leaf springs and no longer as in the 1900 and 1800/2100 spring struts with coil springs. The maximum speed was depending on the version 154 to 162 km / h. Like the 2100 Speciale , the 2300 was equipped with twin headlights  .

PERFORMANCE:
FUEL CONSUMPTION: 25.7 m/imp gal, 19.7 m/US gal, 11.9 1 x 100 km/h;
MAX SPEED: 99.4 mph, 160 km/h;
max speed in 1st gear: 27.9 mph, 45 km/h
max speed in 2nd gear: 49.7 mph, 80 km/h
max speed in 3rd gear: 65.2 mph, 105 km/h
max speed in 4th gear: 99.4 mph, 160 km/h
power-weight ratio: 23.2 lb/hp, 10.5 kg/hp
standing 1/4 mile 20.8 sec, 0—50 mph (O —80 km/h) 9.8 sec
speed in direct drive at 1000 rpm: 17 mph, 27.3 km/h.

With 80 mm larger wheelbase, correspondingly longer body and better equipment, the 2300 Speciale was offered. Along with sedan and station wagon appeared the two-door, designed by Ghia Fiat 2300 Coupe , which was also equipped with the 2.3-liter engine. His top speed was 175 km / h. The coupe was built with a four-speed gearbox with middle circuit, but already set back in mid-1964.In parallel, there was the almost 200 km / h fast 2300 S Coupe with a revised Abarth engine with over 136 hp (100 kW).Based on the Fiat 2300 Ghia produced the Ghia 230 S.

VARIATIONS AND OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES:
Saxomat automatic clutch
Laycock-de Normanville overdrive on IV (ratio 0.756)
Smith electromagnetic automatic gearbox
sunshine roof.

In early 1968, the production of all 2300 variants was discontinued. In the spring of 1969 appeared for the 2300 Berlina the newly constructed successor Fiat 130 with new six-cylinder V-engine and an independent suspension also behind. A FIAT 130 estate version Familiare was not built in spite of a prototype shown in 1971 and for the 2300 S Coupe is the successor to the Dino 2000 Coupe with 160 hp, built from the end of 1967.
