The Dodge D8 series was a pre war Dodge car built in Detroit , which was introduced as a model for the year 1938 as a successor to the Dodge D5 series in October 1937.
History
The car had like its predecessors - a side-mounted flathead six-cylinder in-line engine with 3569 cc, the 87 bhp (64 kW) at 3600 / min. made. Single-disc dry clutch, three-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive also had this vehicle. On request, a semi-automatic (vacuum automatically actuated clutch) was available.
The D8 series a facelifted version of the D5 was also available with two wheelbases: most superstructures were on the 2921 mm wheelbase chassis, the seven-seat touring sedan and the five-seat Pullman sedan had 3353 mm wheelbase.
The bodies had been slightly reworked: The grille had received chrome trim along the center bar and the entire grille was perpendicular again as the headlamps were moved from being mounted onto the fenders. As superstructures - as in the predecessor - a two- or four-door sedan, each in "normal" (with hatchback, but without trunk) and in "Touring execution" (with hatchback and rear trunk connected) offered.
There were also two different two-door coupes (Business and R / S), as well as a two and a four-door convertible on the short chassis. R / S Coupe and two-door convertible were available with two or four seats. In addition to the bodies described above, the long chassis was also supplied with all mechanical components, but without superstructures, so that it could be awarded by the customer to bodywork companies that equipped them with special bodies.
Already in October 1938, the series D8 was replaced by the model Luxury Liner .
