Honda F20C engine

 Honda F20C Honda-S2000 car engine (2000-2009)

The Honda F20C engine is a four-stroke petrol internal combustion automotive engine, originally fitted to the Honda S2000.

History

The Honda F20C engine AP1, F20C is a 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder type VTEC naturally aspirated engine developing 240 hp (120 hp / l) at 8,300 rpm (Japan: 22.2 mkg at 7,500 rpm and 250 hp at 8,600 rpm, or 125 hp / l). The rev limit is at 9,000 rpm.

The specific power of 125 hp / l achieved by this engine was, until the appearance of the Ferrari 458 Italia, the absolute record for a naturally aspirated engine on a production car, it still remains the best naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in the world. The S2000 engine won the title of best engine in the world for 4 consecutive years: 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.

At the end of 2004, Honda developed a new version of the engine, the F22C1, for the North American market. The displacement has been increased to 2.2 litters and the red zone is reduced to 8,000 rpm. If the power is almost identical (240 hp), the torque increases and goes from 208 Nm to 220 Nm, which was the main reason for this engine. These are the AP2 versions of the S2000 that are equipped.

The F20C and F22C1 have a VTEC system for both the intake and exhaust camshaft two overhead cams with roller followers, a ladder-frame main bearing stiffener, Fibre-Reinforced Metal cylinder liner and molybdenum disulphide-coated pistons.

Honda R18 engine Service Guide (2005-)

The Honda R18 type engine (Honda Rgata engine) is an in-line 4-cylinder 1.8L gasoline engine for medium-sized vehicles manufactured by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. As of September 2019, only products for export to Japan are manufactured.

History

The 1,800cc R18A was adopted for the first time in the 8th generation Civic announced on September 28, 2005.This model was developed as a successor to the D17A and B20B, each with two intake and exhaust valves. The valves are opened and closed via rocker arms by timing chain driven camshafts. On the intake side, I-VTEC 's "variable intake air volume control" is adopted, and by switching between the Miller cycle and the Otto cycle, both high output and low fuel consumption are achieved. In the Miller cycle, one side of the intake valve closes late during low-load driving, and the air- fuel mixture that has been taken in is pushed back during the upward stroke of the piston. Delayed closing of the intake valve is realized by switching to a cam with a wider working angle than usual. In addition, the use of drive-by-wire reduces throttle throttling and reduces pumping loss.

The bore pitch of the cylinder block has been expanded from 84mm of the D type to 88mm, but the narrow cam chain and chain case with built-in oil pump have succeeded in making it compact and lightweight. The piston is cooled by an oil jet to increase the compression ratio. There is no exhaust manifold, and the distance between the engine and the three-way catalyst is brought closer, making it possible to purify the exhaust gas from an early stage even when it is cold, contributing to weight reduction and compactness.

Honda L15 engine (2002-)

The Honda L 1500cc (1,497 cc) engine (Honda L-type engine) is an in-line Water-cooled 4-cylinder gasoline engine for small cars and hybrid cars manufactured by Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

Range and History

Successor to the D model. With reduction of CO2 and improved fuel efficiency with  cleaner exhaust gas. It appeared as the second model following the K type. There is one intake and one exhaust valve, but two spark plugs are installed at diagonal positions, each of which is equipped with an ignition coil to ignite at the optimum timing and phase according to the engine speed and load. do. The intake and exhaust ports are shaped to form a swirl in the combustion chamber to improve the combustion speed. The central axis of the cylinder and crankshaft is offset in the aluminium cylinder block to reduce the frictional resistance between the piston and cylinder.

In addition, by installing an exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine, the distance between the engine and the three-way catalyst is reduced, enabling early purification of exhaust gas even when the engine is cold. Furthermore, the exhaust gas is applied obliquely to the cell surface of the catalyst to increase the contact area and improve the purification efficiency.

History

  • The Mobilio Spike announced on September 18, 2002 is equipped with the 4-valve VTEC L15A.
  • The LDA of the second-generation Civic Hybrid announced on September 22, 2005 adopted the 3-stage i-VTEC with the addition of all-cylinder deactivation mode.
  • The second-generation Fit announced on October 18, 2007 is equipped with i-VTEC L15A.
  • The third-generation Fit, announced on September 5, 2013, engine, L15B of direct injection specification, and LEB for hybrid.
  • The 5th generation Stepwagon announced on April 24, 2015 adopted the turbo specification L15B.
  • The 10th generation Civic hatchback announced on July 27, 2017 adopted the high-octane L15C, which has undergone special tuning.

I-DSI+VCM

Developed for Civic Hybrid and 2nd generation Insight. By applying a variable valve timing and lift mechanism, the intake and exhaust valves of some or all cylinders are deactivated during deceleration regeneration to simulate displacement and reduce intake and exhaust losses. As a result, the rotational energy from the tires is transmitted to the generator (motor for IMA) without waste, improving regenerative efficiency. In addition, the second-generation Civic Hybrid has a 3-stage i-VTEC (low speed range: low cam operation, high speed range: high output operation with high cam only for intake, during deceleration regeneration: suspension of intake and exhaust valves).

The 2nd generation Civic Hybrid and the 2nd generation Insight do not have an exhaust manifold, and adjacent exhaust ports are gathered in the cylinder head, and a three-way catalyst is installed immediately after that.

Honda L15 engine Maintenance (2002-)

VTEC L15A

It has two intake and two exhaust valves, and is equipped with a variable valve timing lift mechanism to achieve both high output and practicality. It is a specification similar to " VTEC-E " which aims to improve the combustion speed by forming a swirl in the combustion chamber by stopping one of the intake valves in the low-speed range.

i-VTEC

L15A and later engines Similar to the VTEC mentioned above, in addition to the fuel-saving specification that deactivates one of the intake valves at low speeds and the performance specification that switches the cam profile at low and high speeds, the SOHC engine has different opening and closing timings of the intake valves at low and high speeds. There are DOHC engines with specifications that change the valve timing) and the amount of lift. The throttle valve is opened and closed by DBW. There is no exhaust manifold like the LDA late specification, and the exhaust ports are gathered in the cylinder head.

L15B

NAMore he DOHC direct-injection engine first installed in the 3rd generation Fit. On the intake side, along with the VTC, a high-output VTEC with a low-speed cam and a high-speed cam is adopted. The compression ratio is 11.5. By reducing the diameter of the spark plug, the valve diameter is enlarged to improve intake efficiency and reduce pumping loss. For the crankshaft, the journal diameter has been reduced from 50mm to 46mm, and the balance weight has also been reduced to reduce weight.

VTEC TURBO Based on the downsizing concept, the L15B is combined with a turbocharger to achieve performance on par with the 2.0L. It was first installed in the 5th generation Stepwagon. Honda's turbo engine for registered cars is since the C20A installed in the first Legend. In addition, although it is called VTEC, the variable valve mechanism is only the phase variable type VTC, and this is the first time that it is called VTEC. The base engine had a front intake and rear exhaust, but this engine has a rear intake and front exhaust.

LEB

The Miller cycle engine was first installed in the second-generation Fit Hybrid. Developed based on the L15B engine (NA) mentioned above, it has a displacement of 1.5L, and the fuel injection has been changed to a normal port injection and a Miller cycle. The hybrid system that can be combined was only the 1-motor SPORT HYBRID i-DCD, but the Clarity PHEV released in 2018 was equipped with the 2-motor SPORT HYBRID i-MMD. When equipped with Vezel and Jade, it is combined with the original in-cylinder fuel injection.

Honda K 20 type engine (2000-)

The K20-type 2.0L engine (Kgata engine) is an in-line 4-cylinder gasoline engine for medium-sized vehicles manufactured by Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

History

The 2,000cc K20A was adopted for the first time in the stream announced on October 26, 2000. The high-tuned K20A was adopted for the second-generation Integra Type R announced on July 2, 2001. The Stream Absolute announced on November 27, 2003 adopted the 2,000cc gasoline direct injection engine I-VTEC I K20B. The K20C1, which combines VTEC and a turbocharger, was adopted for the Civic Type R released in 2015.

i-VTEC K20A

An in -line 4-cylinder engine that is the successor to the B, F, and H engines. For the next generation, Honda has developed an engine that aims to achieve a high level of fusion with the enjoyment of driving (improved power performance) while simultaneously achieving "reduction of CO2 (improved fuel efficiency)" and "cleaner exhaust “. was called the "i-series", and the K type was announced as the first model. After the J model, the direction of rotation of the engine was changed to the opposite from the conventional B and F models, and it was changed to the same direction as other companies.

All models have a swing arm type DOHC that drives two intake and exhaust valves, a total of 16 valves. The variable valve timing and lift mechanism " i-VTEC " that is installed has one of the intake valves almost stopped at low speed, and the phase of the intake side camshaft is changed to adjust the overlap amount "VTC (Variable Timing Control)” is combined. The swing arm uses a roller mechanism to reduce friction on the sliding part.

The cylinder block was made of die -cast aluminium, and a lower block structure was adopted to increase the support rigidity of the crankshaft, and a balancer was installed to reduce the vibration of the secondary engine. It has the same 94mm bore pitch as the F model, but the engine length is kept down by adopting a timing chain and auxiliary serpentine drive.

PGM-FI is a multi-point type with an injector attached to each cylinder port of the intake manifold. The intake manifold is equipped with a variable intake device, and through cooperative control with i-VTEC, both torque in the medium and low speed range and output in the high-speed range are achieved. By installing an exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine, the distance between the engine and the three-way catalyst is reduced, enabling early purification of exhaust gas even when the engine is cold. Since 2008, there is no exhaust manifold, adjacent exhaust ports are gathered in the cylinder head, and a three-way catalyst is installed immediately after that, and an air flow meter is installed on the intake side to further reduce exhaust gas. Purification is planned.

Honda K 20 type engine Maintenance and Service Guide (2000-)

R-Spec K20A

Developed for Type R (Integra Type R, Civic Type R), each part has specifications that emphasize high rotation and high output. The variable valve timing and lift mechanism changes valve timing and lift at both low and high-speed ranges. Eliminates the variable intake system and adopts a single-pipe, equal-length intake manifold that improves the intake inertia effect, and uses fine-grained sand for the intake and exhaust ports of the cylinder head to achieve high-precision shapes and smooth wall surfaces. rice field. In the Japanese specification, the balancer is also abolished to reduce friction.

i-VTEC I K20B

The fuel supply method of the standard i-VTEC specification is direct injection into the cylinder (direct injection), resulting in low fuel consumption, clean exhaust gas and high output. By adopting a "centre injection" injector in the centre of the ceiling of the combustion chamber, the engine achieves ultra-lean combustion with an air-fuel ratio of 65:1, while meeting the 2005 exhaust gas standard of 50% reduction.

K20C A 2.0L engine produced at the Anna engine plant in Ohio. There are a turbo model and a naturally aspirated model, and only the turbo model adopts direct injection. VTC is installed on both the intake and exhaust, and VTEC is installed only on the exhaust. The turbo model adopted a small monoscroll turbo.

Honda N22A N22B engine Maintenance and Service Guide

The Honda N-type engine (Honda Ngata engine) is an in-line 4-cylinder Water-cooled diesel engine with Common rail Direct injection for medium-sized vehicles manufactured by Honda Motor Co Ltd.

History

The N series is Honda's first automotive diesel engine, for medium-sized vehicles developed in-house as a successor to the diesel engine that had been supplied by Isuzu Motors. It uses common rail direct injection, which Honda brands as i-CTDi (Intelligent Common-rail Turbocharged Direct injection). The most notable feature is the aluminium block, which uses proprietary technology in the manufacturing process to provide light weight and high rigidity. Roller chains drive two overhead camshafts. A variable-geometry turbocharger and intercooler are used.

The 2,200cc N22A i-CTDi (Intelligent Common rail Turbocharged Direct Injection) was introduced for the first time in the European specifications of the 7th generation Accord and 4th generation Accord Tourer (Accord Wagon in Japan) announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 1, 2003. The third-generation CR-V European specification N22A-equipped vehicle announced on September 4, 2006 was equipped with a DPF.

On September 25, 2006, it was announced that the improved N22A engine had met the US emissions regulations "Tier II Bin 5." In 2007, the name I-DTEC was announced. The 2,200cc N22B i-DTEC was adopted for the first time in the European specifications of the 8th generation Accord and the 5th generation Accord Tourer released in 2008.

Later variants 1.6L i-DTEC was adopted for the first time in the Civic European specification released in 2013. N15A 1.5L i-DTEC was adopted in Amaze released in India in 2013. 160ps 1.6L i-DTEC was adopted for CR-V in 2015.

N22A i-CTDi

Honda N22A i-CTDi Technical details

The biggest feature is that the cylinder block adopts an aluminium block manufactured with a technology called "semi-solid (semi-molten) casting”, which has succeeded in achieving both high rigidity and weight reduction. There are two intake and two exhaust valves, and the camshaft is driven by a timing chain. The fuel injection system is a high-pressure common rail type direct injection, and a variable nozzle turbocharger from Honeywell. with an intercooler installed. Some models are equipped with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in the exhaust system.

N22B i-DTEC

Honda N22B i-DTEC engine specifications

It was developed with the goal of meeting the US exhaust gas regulations "Tier II Bin 5," which requires NOx emission levels equivalent to those of gasoline vehicles with new type front intake/rear exhaust port configuration, and also conforms to Europe's "Euro 5." The exhaust port of the cylinder head has been changed to the front, the compression ratio and injection nozzle have been renewed, and the displacement has been reduced to 2.2 L or less by reducing the stroke. This is available with the five-speed automatic transmission only.
