PSA Peugeot Citroën XU engine

PSA Peugeot Citroën XU engine

The PSA XU are a series of internal combustion engines used in Peugeot and Citroën and some Fiat automobiles. The engine is still in use today (2017) in the Iran and Egypt-made Peugeot 405 .

The XU engines were introduced in 1981 with the Peugeot 305 . This was a SOHC - or DOHC - line engine with two or four valves per cylinder , with gasoline as fuel . It was tilted transversely by 30 ° only in vehicles with front wheel driveinstalled. The displacement was between 1580 and 1998 cc (gasoline), and all XU gasoline engines had holes of 83 mm or 86 mm. The diesel versions are called XUD and range from 1769 to 2138 cm3 for holes of 80, 83, 85 or 86 mm.The XU series has been replaced by more modern EW / DW series motors .

XU5

The XU5 has a displacement of 1.6 l (1580 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 73 mm. All XU5 had one overhead camshaft and two valves per cylinder. Depending on the model, either a single or double carburetor or port injection was used. The power ranged from 80 to 115 hp (59-85 kW).

The XU8 has a displacement of 1.8 l (1775 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 82 mm. With him the 205 Turbo16 was equipped. The power ranged from 200 hp (147 kW) to 480 hp (353 kW). The XU8T is based on the modified cast iron engine block of the diesel variant, because only so could the necessary stability for the high load caused by the charge could be ensured. Also, the cylinder head of this engine has been redesigned. For the Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 there was based on the XU8 T Evo 2 the XU9 T Evo 4. This reached with a Garrett turbocharger in the Pikes Peak version of an output of 600 hp (448 kW).
