The Bristol KS was a bus produced by British manufacturer Bristol Commercial Vehicles in the 1950s.

History

The Bristol KS, introduced in 1950, is basically a 27ft long version of the K model. Having a wheelbase of 17ft 6in it retains the 7ft 6in width of its predecessor. It was offered with a choice of either Gardner 5LW or Bristol AVW 6-cylinder engine, these being classifled KS5G and KS6B respectively.

Transmission is via a single plate clutch and 4-speed constant mesh gearbox, whilst the brakes are vacuum servo operated.

Although production of the KS ended in 1951, a further six were built in 1957 and fitted with Gardner 6LW engines, classified KS6G. Of the 231 KS chassis built, all but 11 carried bodywork constructed by Eastern Coach Works.

Also Introduced in 1950, the KSW chassis is an 8ft wide version of the  KS, having a wheelbase of 17ft 6in. A choice of three different power units was given, these being a Bristol A V W engine or Gardner 5LW or 6LW units.

Chassis fitted with these were classified KSW6B, KSW5G and KSW6G respectively. A further option open to purchasers was in relation to the gearbox which could be either a 4 or 5-speed constant mesh unit. The brakes fitted are of the vacuumservo type.

The KSW remained in production until 1957, by which time a total of 1,130 had been built, all of them fitted with Eastern Coach Works bodies.
