The RS5 first-generation was a sports version of the A5 built from 2010 to 2015 as a Coupe and convertible.
History
The first-generation RS5 is based on the A5 8T and was formally presented as a coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. The vehicle was only available with 7-speed double clutch S tonic gearbox. The Audi RS5 is the most powerful vehicle of the A5 series from Audi with choice of 8 body colours asides from the popular black silver and white.
Based on the original Quattro lines of the RS5 is based on the Audi A5, which was designed by Walter Maria de ‘Silva. Compared to the variants of the Audi A5, the RS model distinguishes itself next to the engine and transmission through the following external changes:
- modified front and rear bumpers
- no fog lights, but air intakes in the front apron
- Grille in diamond design
- widened front and rear fenders
- side skirts
- round tank flap
- Exterior mirrors in aluminium design
- Body details such as grille surround in matte aluminium look
- two oval exhaust covers
- an extendable rear spoiler (from 120 km / h automatically)
The interior features leather upholstery, carbon trims, a sport leather steering wheel and seats, aluminium-look pedals and various RS5 logos as standard.
Audi formally presented the revised RS5 at the IAA in September 2011. This received as the A5 family face with a modified grille, narrower air inlets, modified front and rear aprons. From spring 2012, the modified coupe was delivered. In autumn 2012, the RS5 convertible was added.
The engine is based on the V8 high-revving engine of the 2005 released RS4. Opposite this, the performance of the V8 engine in the RS5 could be increased by 22 kW (30 hp) and is achieved at over 8000 rpm. The torque of 430 Nm remained unchanged, but is available in a speed range from 4000 to 6000 / min.
The RS5 comes as standard with the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (S tonic) and permanent four-wheel drive (quattro). For the first time as a centre differential a crown gear differential, instead of the usual Torsen differentials installed. Compared to the predecessor, it is two kilograms lighter and allows a delay-free distribution of drive torque a rare optional 380 mm carbon ceramic front brake disc brakes could be added with 8 pot piston calipers . The basic distribution of drive torque is 40% at the front axle and 60% at the rear axle. For better traction a maximum of 70% can be directed forward or 85% towards the rear.
Transmission, accelerator and steering characteristics as well as the response of the standard exhaust flap control can be changed by the driver (Audi drive select); This also applies to the characteristics of the optional components dynamic steering, sport differential.
