The EA827 is an engine series of the Volkswagen Group with four cylinders in series and liquid cooling .

The EA827 in 1972 for the Audi 80 developed and in 1973 the Audi 80 B1 and VW Passat B1 first installed. The motors of this series are considered the most-built engines in the VW group.
The overhead camshaftis toothed belt driven and operates the parallel hanging valves via bucket tappets . The oil sump of wet sump lubrication and the distributor of ignitionsit at the ends of an inclined shaft, which is driven by helical gears of a so-called intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft in turn is driven at half the crankshaft speed via the toothed belt. Originally, the engines of the series were equipped with carburetors, later they were converted to intake manifold injection.
