The ASA 411 was the racing car version of the Italian sports car ASA 1000 GT .Officially, the vehicle has only the designation 411, composed of 4- cylinder 1 , 1 liter. It was built in small numbers until the closure of the manufacturer Autocostruzione and used only a few times in races.

History

To increase the sales of the ASA 1000 GT, ASA tried to promote the car through racing. For this two modified 1000 GT were used in the Targa Florio 1965 . In the same year, the racing version of the 1000 GT, the 411, was presented at the Salon de l'Automobile in Paris this autumn . It was a coupe carotid by Carrozzeria Marazzi , which in principle followed the design of the 1000 GT, but had a light-alloy body with recessed headlight lenses. The engine was increased to 1.1 liters, so that the race car could compete better in the class up to 1100 cc. How many 411s were made until 1967 is not known.

In the 1966 Targa Florio three ASA 411 were registered, but only the number 214 was a car of this type. dangers of Silvestre Semilia and Raffaele Pinto , he scored the 21th Place in the overall standings and 5th place in class rating prototype cc to 2000th

Engine and transmission

The engine is a four-cylinder four-stroke gasoline engine. The cylinders are arranged in series and the pistons run in wet cylinder liners . Cylinder head and block are made of light metal. The camshaft driven by a chain lies in the cylinder head and controls the valves via rocker arms. Each cylinder has two valves suspended at a V angle of 60 °. The radiator is located in front of the engine and holds 5 liters of liquid. Every 4000 km the oil has to be changed.

The engine transmits the power to the gearbox via a single-disc dry clutch. There was a full-sync four-speed gearbox from Humber with overdrive from Auto Transmissions for the gears 2, 3 and 4 or a fully synchronized Fiat five-speed gearbox without overdrive to choose from. In both transmissions, the 4th gear is translated directly. The transmission transmits the power further to the hypoid axle gear of the rear axle.

Chassis and Bodywork

The chassis is a tubular frame construction with two oval side rails. At the front, the wheels are suspended individually on unequal length wishbones with coil springs , telescopic shock absorbers and cornering stabilizer . Rear, it is a rigid axle to trailing arms and Watt linkage with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers ,. The car has a hydraulically operated dual-circuit brake system with disc brakes on all four wheels. The handbrake acts on the rear wheels. The steering is a rack and pinion steering.

The body was built by the Carrozzeria Marazzi and is essentially the same as the ASA 1000 GT coupe with hatchback. The main external differences are, in addition to the headlights of the headlamps tilted backwards, the air scoop on the bonnet, the missing air outlets in the front fenders, and the quick-closing tank over the right rear mudguard. To save weight, the body was made of light metal. Side windows and rear window are made of plastic. The front side windows can be opened to open, the rear can be opened. The car should have been about 110 kg lighter than the ASA 1000 GT.
