Franco Sbarro founded the company in Grandson in 1967 , which initially bore his name. In 1968, it was renamed the still valid company. The development of automobiles began. Following a meeting with Georges Filipinetti , Franco Sbarro (born February 27, 1939 in Presicce , Italy ) joined the Filipinetti scuderia in Switzerland as chief mechanic in charge of the development and maintenance of the racing cars of the stable and restoration of vehicles such as AC Cobra , Ferrari 330P3 , and Ford GT40 . He built the Filipinetti coupe, his first creation, from the plans of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia with 1.6 L engine.
In 1968 he left the scuderia Filipinetti and founded the ACA (Automobile Construction Workshop) in an old mill cigarettes in Grandson of Vaud , where he created his first prototype "ACA Sbarro Dominique III" , a small sport equipped with a huge rear wing inspired by the Ford GT40 .
