The Plymouth Sundance was produced by the US automaker Plymouth from 1986 to 1994, front-wheel drive sedan.
The Sundance was based on the P platform of the Chrysler Corporation (a shortened version of the K platform ) and was thus a sister model of the Dodge Shadow , of which he differed only by minimal details; however, the Sundance, unlike the Shadow, was not available as a convertible but as 2 and 4 doors.
History
In early summer 1986, Plymouth unveiled the Sundance as a new, compact, mid-size four-door, tailgate model; a two-door followed in the course of the year. Initially, only a single equipment variant was available, powered by a 2.2 l four-cylinder with or without turbocharger , each with five-speed gearbox or three-speed automatic transmission available. A sporty oriented RS package was available for the two-door for an extra charge and included, among other things, alloy wheels and wide tires.
Sundance offers contemporary notchback aero design, easy-handling size, and responsive performance. Basic Sundance is powered by 2.2L 4 cylinder engine, optional 2.2L turbo or 2.5L. With Rally Sport package, Sundance RS boasts standard 2.51. engine, with optional 2.2L turbo. Sundance has high level
of standard equipment. Standard features includepower brakes, power-assisted steering, and stainless steel exhaust system.
In 1988, the RS package also included rear spoiler, front bumper with integrated fog lights and trim.
In 1989, all Sundance received a new grille, modified rear lights and flush with the body final headlights. The previous turbo engine was replaced by a 2.5-liter turbo with 145 hp, in addition to the program came a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 101 hp. The chassis of the RS with turbo engine was designed a little firmer.
In 1990, the equipment was supplemented by a driver's airbag. From 1991, the Sundance program diversified into the stripped-down model Sundance America, the regular Sundance and the Sundance RS, which was upgraded to its own model variant.
From model year 1992, the RS was replaced by a version that bore the Plymouth tradition name Duster and was available with three and five doors. As standard in the Sundance Duster were a three-liter V6 and five-speed gearbox. In 1993, the Shadow America accounted for as well as the turbo engine. A new extra was ABS .
With the appearance of the Plymouth Neon in the spring of 1994, the production of Sundance was discontinued.
From Sundance Plymouth produced a total of nearly 490,000 copies.
