Peugeot J9 van history 1981 to 1991
Years of production
1981 to 1991
Petrol: 1 618 cc to 1,971cc
The utility J9 is a van manufactured by Peugeot who succeeded the J7 from January 1981 . The J9 is the last French cab with an advanced cab were the cab is fitted above the engine.
The body of the J7 is modernized: black bumpers with built-in front steps, enlarged taillights, expanded sliding side door and modified roof. The J9 was delivered in several heights and lengths with GVWRs ranging from 3.1 to 3.5 tons . As on the latest J7 , the optional comfort cab offers a curved, adjustable tilt driver seat with a headrest .
At launch, four engines were available: gasoline 1,618 cm or 1,971 cm and Diesel of 2 112 cm or 2 304 cm . They come from the 504 . The gearbox is derived from that of the J7 but the longer gear ratios lower the consumption for a road use. Braking is provided by two discs at the front and two drums at the rear.
For 1987 , a five-speed gearbox is avalible in series. To preserve performance, the chassis-cab and extended car variants have a shortened gear ratio (changing the number of bevel gear teeth between the motor and the axle so that the wheels rotate less quickly). Equipment side, the dashboard is renewed. On the latest J9, the diesel engine of 2 498 cm from the 505 is widespread and an additional tubular bumper appears at the rear.
Well after the end of manufacturing in France, the J9 is still manufactured under license in Turkey at Karsan . The restyled version has received a new grille with rectangular projectors under the name J11.In 1991 , the successor to the J9 will initially be the increased tonnage versions of the J5 and, from 1994 ,the Boxer van.
