GJM Taipan (GJ McHattan)
GJ McHattan was an Australian manufacturer of automobiles from the 1980s .
Geoff McHattan founded the company in Manly near Sydney . He started in 1986 with the production of automobiles. The brand name was GJM . In late 1986 three vehicles had already been completed and five more in the works. 1987, the production ended.
The only model Taipan (Australian snake) was the replica of the AC Cobra . A V8 engine from Chevrolet with 7400 cc capacity propelled the vehicles. They made about 300 kW with the help of two turbochargers from Garrett . In 1987, a smaller engine from Chevrolet with 5790 cc capacity was available.
The open body could accommodate two people. According to the manufacturer at that time it was the fastest road-legal vehicle manufactured in Australia.
