The Mitsubishi Sigma is a car built from October 1990 to October 1996 by Mitsubishi Motors . It is the sister model of the Mitsubishi Diamante . The Sigma is designed as a sedan. A similar combination already existed before with the Galant E10 and the Sapporo E16 . The models Sigma and Diamante were sold in parallel in Japan. In North America you could only buy the Diamante, in Europe only the Sigma.
History
In Europe, the Sigma was from December 1990 initially only as a sedan with two different 3-liter V6 engines - a 12-valve engine with 130 kW (177 hp) and a 24-valve engine with 151 kW (205 hp). The maximum speed is about 230 km / h.
From June 1992, a 4.8 m long combination variant imported from Australia was also offered. However, the station wagon was only offered with the 12-valve engine in a 125 kW (170 hp) throttled variant. In the top version of the Sigma possessed some technical refinements such as an electronically adjustable suspension and four-wheel steering . The Diamante sister model of the sigma had a number of innovative systems and was thus ahead of its time:an advanced version of traction control (TCL),All-wheel steering,semi- active chassis (Dynamic ECS),GPS navigation system with color screen on the center console,Head-up display ; Adaptive Cruise Control / Lane Keeping Assist with lidar and front camera (first in the 1992 Debonair ).The world's first five-speed automatic for cars with transversely mounted engines and transmissions, complete with INVECS II software logic and manual shift gate
The same engine was installed among others in the Mitsubishi 3000 GT and in the sister model Dodge Stealth. To increase performance, two parallel Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) TD04-9B (USA and Japan) and TD04-13G turbochargers (Europe and Australia) were used. The power output was 210 kW (286 hp).
