The Mercury Mariner is an SUV of the car manufacturer Ford . The vehicle was introduced in the fall of 2004 and was the sister model of Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape , but had due to the positioning of the Mercury brand a higher equipment level.
History
In autumn 2004, the Mariner was introduced. The mechanics are identical to the Ford Escape, the Mercury was only with automatic transmission. External stylistic differences were z. For example, a two-tone interior and the Mercury-typical "waterfall" radiator grille with emblem. The Mariner introduced Mercury's first SUV, based on a car, and placed itself in the model range below the Mountaineer .
From the beginning of 2006, the Mariner was also available as a hybrid. The mechanics resembled his sister model Ford Escape Hybrid . Both models are full hybrid versions, which means that they can be operated either purely electrically, only with gasoline engines or with both engines together. Switching is automatic to get the best performance and efficiency at every speed and load. When braking or stopping, the energy is converted back into electricity, with the electric motor acting as a generator and charging the batteries. With 155 bhp (114 kW), the Mariner Hybrid accelerates almost as fast as the conventionally operated Mariner with 200 bhp (147 kW) V6 engine.
On September 7, 2006, Ford delivered a special "presidential" version of the Mercury Mariner Hybrid to the former US President Bill Clinton . The equipment includes:LED lighting and enlarged rear seat space,There was also several unpublished security features on this vehicle.
