The Datsun Cherry 2nd generation was a small japanese car known models as from 1974 to 1978 F10 and F II, 100A / 120A F-II, 210 around the world.
History
The successor Cherry F-II (F10) launched in September 1974 in the home market. Technically, the F-II is based on the E10 and the design was a little "baroque" designed. The design is only accepted cautiously on the export markets, which is why the export of its predecessor is continued, partly in parallel with the new model.
The extremely successful line of 1-litre economy cars from powered by the world famous 988cc. engine that drives the front wheels and gives a top speed
well into the 80's, with lively acceleration and around 40m.p.g. in normal driving. Steering is precise rack and pinion, suspension coil springs and fully independent. For a car of this class, the equipment is quite outstanding, even power-assisted brakes and tinted glass being included in the standard specification. Add reclining frontseats, two waveband push button radio, heated rear window, hazard flashers, twin automatic reversing lights, cigar lighter, door mirror, radial tyres etc.
In the basic design and model selection, hardly anything had changed. The vehicles were slightly larger, as they were now offered in North America as Datsun 210 (coupe and wagon only). Therefore, a 1.4-liter engine of the A-series was installed, which made 59 kW / 80 hp.
In New Zealand , the model was manufactured as a four-door sedan 100A with the 1.0-liter engine from supplied parts kits . It was then the model with the smallest engine on the market, even the Morris Mini had with 998 cm² more displacement. It was built here until the end of 1980, until the production of the Cherry N10 hatchback model began.
At the end of 1975, a facelift brings, among other things, modified wheel suspensions and new wheel covers. The Cherry F-II was presented in January 1977 with redesigned interiors and headlights.
