Chevron B16 History

The chassis like the predecessor B8, used a lattice construction with stiffening sheets of steel and aluminum. The chassis with double wishbones on all wheels. Derek Bennett also designed the body of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, which was made by Specialized Moldings.

The first cars were powered by a Formula One 2-liter Ford Cosworth FVA engine. Thanks to personal contact between Bennett and Keith Duckworth , the Cosworth 1598 cc engine was redesigned. A 1790 cc larger displacement resulted in this engine a higher power of 235  bhp (175 kW) at 8750 rpm . Only 18 copies of this engine was delivered to Chevron, later also a BMW M-10 engine with 2 liters , four-cylinder with a capacity:1990.8 cc a Bore and stroke of 89 × 80  and power:220 hp (160 kW) at 7800 rpmwith a Torque of 210 Nm at 6630 rpm fitted with Carburetor Weber 45 DCOE and a Mazda Wankel engine were also used. A total of 23 Chevron B16 were built, which is considered one of the most beautiful Chevron sports cars from its time.

In 1970,A  single one off the single-seat and open Chevron B16 Spyder with 1790 cc Cosworth engine also successfully used by Brian Redman at the European Sports Car Championship in the 2-liter class. Like the first race, the 500 km race at the Nürburgring , on September 7, 1969, Brian Redman won in the time of 3: 13: 01,6 hours.  The last victory scored with a Chevron B16 Clemens Schickentanz on 11 July 1971 at the sports car race at the Norisring .
