History
In August 1963 revision to the EH Standard / EH Special gave the car elongated tail lights and new engines replacing the Holden EJ series.
Three drive units were now available: two versions of the previous model with 2,442 cc capacity and performance of 95 hp (70 kW) at a low compression ratio (7.7: 1) and 100 hp (74 kW) at high compression (8.8:1), and a new in-line six cylinder with the red engine, now with a seven main bearing crankshaft and carburation was now a single Bendix-Stromberg BXV-2 downdraught carburettor and larger 2,933 cc capacity and an output of 115 hp (85 kW) 2 valves per cylinder, overhead, push-rods and rockers with hydraulic tappets.
PERFORMANCE: 2.4L
- Engine Capacity 149 cu in, 2,441.66 cu cm
- Fuel Consumption 25 m/imp gal, 20.8 mlUS gal, 11.3 1 x 100 km
- Max Speed 95 mph, 152.9 km/h
- max power (SAE): 100 hp at 4,400 rpm
- max torque (SAE): 145 1b ft, 20 kg m at 2,000 rpm
- max engine rpm: 4,500
This engine was initially sold only with the "Hydramatic" transmission with a column shift, a hydraulic torque convertor and planetary gears with 4 ratios (1st 3.51, 2nd 2.93, 3rd 1.58, 4th 1, rev 3.36 2.35), max ratio of convertor at stall 1.3. and later also with the three-speed manual gearbox with a final drive axle ratio of 3.55. Distribution of weight came as 54.2% to front axle, and 45.8% at the rear axle.
PERFORMANCE: 2.9L
- Engine Capacity 179 cu in, 2,933.27 cu cm
- Fuel Consumption 25 miles imp gal, 20.8 ml US gal, 11.3 1 x 100 km

- max power (SAE): 115 hp at 4,000 rpm
- max torque (SAE): 175 1b ft, 24.1 kg m at 1,600 rpm
- max engine rpm: 4,500
- specific power: 39.2 hp/l
- power-weight ratio: 22 lb/hp, 10 kg/hp
- max speeds: 31 mph, 49.9 km/h in 1st gear; 58 mph, 93.4 km/h in 2nd gear; 100 mph, 161 km/h in 3rd gear
The Standard models had with no side badging, mostly with the smaller 149-cubic-inch engines. The Special models came with an optional two-tone paint jobs equipped with stainless moulding strips all round, with special badges. The top line Premier model Also new was another Premier model, the 5-door station wagon both with metallic paint, with a larger 179-cubic-inch engine and Hydramatic transmission, leather interior, bucket seats, fold-down centre armrest in the back seat, carpets, a centre console incorporating a heater/demister, a diamond dot radio, a handbrake warning light and chrome-plated wheel trims with white wall tyres.
The "S4 Special" was introduced in September 1963 for racing homologation as a minimum of 100 were required to be built & sold. These featured a 179 engine, and uprated manual transmission. Six were produced at Holden's Melbourne's (Dandenong) plant and 120 in Sydney's (Pagewood) plant.
The EH until June 1965 exactly 256,959 times (including Premier models). the EH was replaced by the Holden HD series.
