The Holden Apollo is a mid-size car, which was made from 1989 to 1999 by Toyota for the Australian car brand Holden, the offshoot of General Motors, as the successor to the JE Camira.
History
The first Holden Apollo built as the successor of JE Camira delivered in August 1989 a cooperation with Toyota. The JK Apollo was basically a Toyota Camry V20, adapted to Australian standards. Like its predecessor it was available in the equipment variants SL, SL / X and SL / E, whereby the SL / X by the package A8Q also to the executive could be upgraded.
Powered by the well-known 2.0 l inline four-cylinder engine with double camshafts and either a twin carburettor and 82 kW or EFI injection and 88 kW. A manual five-speed or four-speed automatic transmission led the engine power to the front wheels on. In all trim levels, the JK Apollo was available as a 4-door sedan or 5-door station wagon.
In August 1991 there was a small facelift to the JL Apollo. The carburettor engine was eliminated, as were the executive models. The model range began with the SL, next level was the SL / X, then came the sporty GS. The 1991 Holden Apollo GS sedan and wagon offer a host of luxury features. plus a sporty 5 speed overdrive transmission. Exterior features Apollo GS sedan and wagon can be immediately identified by the bold graphic GS applied to the side of the car and the distinctive red stripe wrapping the vehicle. A distinctive paint treatment has also been applied to front and rear bumpers-featuring a black finish to bumper upper surfaces and body colour below. A red stripe defines bumper leading edges, and extends down the sides of the car as an infill in the bodyside protection mouldings. Sporty full wheel covers are also exclusive to Holden Apollo GS with new interior features. The exterior visual treatment is continued inside the vehicle. with trim being adistinctive multicoloured checked fabric and red piping edging front and rear seats. In keeping with its sports oriented image, Apollo GS features a tachometer, as well as electrically adjustable exterior rear view mirrors. Top of the line sound is standard. featuring an AM and FM stereo radio, auto reverse cassette and 4 speakers.
The top model SL / E was only available as a sedan. JK and JL are very similar, with the JL offering a bit more chrome on the grille and window surrounds. The JL Apollo was built until March 1993.
