The Fiat 125 Special is a car of the band produced by FIAT between 1968 and 1972 .

At the Turin Motor Show of '68 it was presented with the "S 125", which was distinguished from the normal version chrome surrounds on the wheel arches, for richer interior (seats with center upholstered in fabric, new center console with object holder, dashboard without false wood, new heating system and new floor covering with better soundproofing) and, above all, for upgrading the engine from 90 to 100 hp DIN at 6200 rpm, keeping unchanged the displacement and the adoption of 5th gear, not speed but rest, in order to reach the maximum speed of 170 km / h at around 5,500 rpm, compared to 160 (at around 6,300 rpm) of the normal version. Indeed, the maximum peak was reached more easily in 4th place in some driving conditions: some specialized magazines of the time reached 170 km / h in 5th gear (road tests were carried out in more favorable driving conditions and with a perfect car) to point ").'69 went out of production while remaining for two years still in the list.

Other updates of the "125 S" concerned the adoption of the double braking circuit (one circuit for the front and one for the rear axle) and the mechanical trim corrector during braking (braking power at the rear was measured to prevent wheel locking due to the lightening of the rear suspension during braking), as well as a different calibration of the brake servo pedal, which was too light on the previous version. Completed the whole a new steering box, derived from that of the Fiat "Dino Coupé", new iodine headlights and the adoption of series radial carcass tires. In addition, the gear lever was set back and shortened for a more sporty setting in the driving position. The interior rear-view mirror was also modified, with a new detachable connection in the event of an impact. Prestigious optional accessories were introduced, such as:air conditioning , light alloy wheels, heated rear window, athermic crystals. New courtesy lights and connections for mounting a speaker to the rear seats. Various details in the plastic of the passenger compartment, such as the gaskets for the uprights and the front seats, benefit from an improvement in the finish. Even the last exemplary products of the "125" base were equipped with a double braking circuit. The trunk undergoes a slight reduction in capacity, from 400 to 380 dm³, due to the adoption of the new 50-liter tank instead of 45.

In 1970 a new update affected the front (new grille and direction indicators included in the bumper), the tail (new larger headlights, horizontal development), the interiors (seats in fabric and imitation leather, dashboard covered in real wood, availability of extended accessories) and other external details such as the new wheel trims and rubber bumpers that earned him the nickname "125 rubber dinghy". Other valuable accessories were made available, such as the automatic gearbox (General Motors construction, 3-speed) and electronic ignition.

A not insignificant detail for the time: the "125 Special" from 1970 adopted a steering with articulated steering column divided into three parts, which in the event of a frontal accident prevented the steering wheel from falling back dangerously against the pilot. The last of the model came in 1972.
