History
The Crossley DD42/8 was an 8ft wide double-deck chassis introduced towards the end of 1948. This Crossley Bus having a wheelbase of 16ft, 7 inches .
It is powered by a Crossley 6-cylinder 8.598 litre oil engine of the direct injection type. Three alternative types of transmission were available, these being a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox, a 4-speed synchromesh gearbox or a Brockhouse Turbo Transmitter, the latter being fully automatic. Braking is of the triple vacuum servo type, and was fitted as standard.
Towards the end of 1950, a longer chassis was introduced to carry bodywork of 8ft width and 27ft length. Fitted with modified suspension and with a wheelbase of 16ft 4in, it retained the same power unit and brakes, having a 4-speed synchromesh gearbox. This was classified the DD42/8A. Crossley bodywork was constructed for both these models.
Production of the DD42/8 finally ended early in 1953.
