Whitwood Monocars Ltd. was a British manufacturer of automobiles .
The company from Portsmouth began in 1934 with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Whitwood . The designer was NF Wood, one of the directors of the motorcycle manufacturer Osborn Engineering Company . In their branch in Portsmouth also the production took place. 1936 ended production. In total, six copies were created.
The only model was the monocar . It was a Einspurwagen with two training wheels. The vehicle offered space for two people in a row. Initially, the engine was mounted under the front seat. From 1935 the engine was in the rear. At the same time the steering was changed. There was a choice of three versions, which differed by the engines. The Devon had a single-cylinder engine with OHV valve control and 250 cc displacement , the York a single-cylinder engine with side valves and 500 cc displacement and the Rutland a V2 engine with side valves and 1000 cc displacement.
