 Gitane was a British car brand, built only in 1962 by GF Plant in Wolverhampton in Staffordshire .

History

G. F. Plant at West Bromwich, At first they built dumptrucks, then only produced in 1962, a Mini based 2-seater GT coupé. However, the price was too high and only 6 cars produced. 

The Gitane was a small sports car with a tubular frame that had competitive potential.A Fiat twin cam engine was to be used but instead it was powered by a mid engine Mini four-cylinder inline engine of the 997 cc , which was equipped with Weber carburetors with the fuel tank up front of the car . The body consisted of aluminum and steel sheets with Mini suspension.
