The ВАЗ-2122 "Reka" is an amphibious vehicle of the car manufacturer AvtoVAZ , which in the 1970s based on the Niwas was developed , The car was intended as an army vehicle and although it was developed to maturity, no series production took place. The project WAS-2122 was discontinued in 1987.
Under the project name Reka , a buoyant military vehicle based on the VAS-2121 Niwa was to be developed. The first prototypes were ready to drive in 1976 and have been extensively tested. It turned out that the vehicle mass was too large, so that from 1978, the car was designed more compact and lighter.
As a motor, a 1.3-liter engine was used. The first near-series version was completed in 1983 and is referred to as Series 400 , the name should have been according to the old scheme actually WAS-4E2122 . It followed in 1985, the series 500 , of which ten copies were built. Some of these vehicles were handed over to the Soviet Army for tests.
1987 followed three vehicles of the Series 600 . This would have been suitable for mass production. However, the WAS-2122 project was discontinued due to lack of funding. In total, 22 prototypes were created.
