The 1990s Alpina B3 based on the 3 series E36 BMW was built from 1993 to 1999 by the small series manufacturer Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen .
History
The Alpina B3 built as a performance sedan and station wagon (touring) coupé and convertibles were also offered on the E36 series. The self-supporting and extremely rigid wholesteel body, welded to the floor pan. By using an aerodynamically optimized front spoilers with low drag coefficient of 0.31 combined with minimal buoyancy. Between 1993 and 1996 the BMW Alpina B3 3.0 of the E36 series was manufactured. It was the direct successor model of the Alpina B6-2.8 model of the E36 series, which was also based on the BMW 325i (but M50B25 without Vanos model until the BMW factory holidays in August 1992 - then with Vanos). In spring 1996, the B3 3.2 followed as an upgrade. 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine. The 3.2 instead of 3.0. with 3.2 24V - 265 HP fuel injection. The Six-cylinder in-line engine with .4 valves per cylinder Crankshaft with 7 bearings, MAHLE light construction, pistons crown oil cooling, Light metal cylinder head with roof-shaped combustion chambers, 2 overhead camshafts with 5 bearings, hydraulic valve clearance compensation, pressure circulation Lubrication with oil filter in the main flow, engine bearingswith hydraulic damping BOSCH Molronic M3.3.1, electronic map-controlled ignition with static ignition voltage and map-controlled sequential injection with air mass measurement, cylinder-selective knock, fuel cut-off, automatic run control, variable cam control Exhaust system with stainless steel pipe elbow; 2-flow 3-way catalyst system with 3 low-resistance EMITEC metal carriers, high temperature resistant DEGUSSA coating, heated lambda probe and silencer system largely made of stainless steel.
The body-base for the B3 3.0 offered a 325i (BMW E36) and a 328i for the B3 3.2. In both models, however, Alpina used the more robust M50 (B25TÜ) cast iron engine, as the M52 engine of the 328i was not suitable for expanding the displacement. Both vehicle variants were available as a coupe (two-door) and sedan (four-door), cabriolet (convertible) and station wagon (touring).
