The AEC 690 was a 6 x 4 (6 wheel) Dumptruck built from the mid 1960s to the early 1970s .To replace the 3673M model.
History
The truck had a payload of 30,00lbs.Right or left hand drive options avaliable, wheel-base at 12 ft. 8 in with Dunlop roadtrack major and power grip tyres. with a overall length 24 ft.was first equipped with a 11.3-liter diesel 6 cylinders fuel injection engine AEC 2AV690 with output of from 150 to 192 hp and a fuel capacity 40 gals with heavy duty all constant mesh gearbox and hydraulic operated clutch .
The tipper bed a 3 stage powerfull twin ram type.The width 7 ft. 11 in.The Height to top of the full steel cab canopy 10' ft. 3 in.The truck had a turning circle of 58 ft. Track 6 ft. 31 in. (front), 6 ft. 2 in. (rear).24 volt electrics for starting and lighting plus all weather protection with heater and demist unit as standard.Later after the company taken over by Leyland, it received a more powerful AEC AV760 engine with output of up to 265 hp now as the AEC, Leyland LD55 model with some body changes.
